Title: Robust pole-placement control of neuromuscular blockade

Abstract: General anesthesia plays an important role in the well being of the patient during a general surgical intervention. Potent anesthetic drugs are used to induce the adequate anesthetic effects and, because of the high variability response within the patient population to the drug (PK/PD dynamic), may cause overdoses and side-effects. Therefore, new practices must be applied in the operating room. In particular, automatic control methodologies are being explored to improve the administration of anesthetic drugs. The contribution of the paper consists in presenting a robust neuromuscular blockade controller, designed with a pole-placement technique, that is able to compensate the high level of model uncertainty. The controller proposed stabilizes not only the nominal model for which it is designed but all the other models in the data bank as well.
